EDHEC Sailing Cup
The following press release from the EDHEC Sailing Cup details a unique partnership between the French regatta and the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta organized by Storm Trysail Foundation and Larchmont Yacht Club:
For the first time, the EDHEC Sailing Cup is setting a partnership with the largest U.S. collegiate regatta: the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta organized by Storm Trysail Foundation and Larchmont Yacht Club. As a result of the partnership, the winning team of the EDHEC Trophy at the IOR will be given the opportunity to compete in the 46th EDHEC Sailing Cup in les Sables-d’Olonne, France sailed in April 2014. To start the exchange between the two regattas, a team from the European Business School located in Paris, France, will be the first European team to compete in the IOR. There will be nearly 500 sailors racing on 56 offshore boats, Oct. 12-13 at Larchmont Yacht Club in Larchmont, N.Y.
The 46th annual EDHEC Sailing Cup will take place in Port Olona – Les Sables-d’Olonne, France beginning on April, 2014. Making this event entirely unique to other competitions, the EDHEC Sailing Cup is organized by a team of 52 EDHEC Business School students selected for a two-year internship and is the largest and among one of Europe’s most prestigious sporting events.
In past years, among the 22 countries, 3,000 students and 180 crews who compete, Queensland University of Technology, University of Chicago, UCLA, MIT, Cambridge, Oxford, École Polytechnique, and London Business School were represented.

“This is one of the oldest competitions in all of Europe — in fact, the 45th EDHEC Sailing Cup is older than the Vendee Globe, the Solitaire du Figaro and the Tour de France Sailing Race,” said François Gabart, winner of the 2013 Vendée Globe sailing MACIF and sponsor of the 44th Sailing Cup. “The EDHEC Sailing Cup remains a pioneer in high-level competitions since the beginning in 1969 and remains an event organized by students for students.”
