Traditionally, November is my least favorite month. As a longtime resident of Latitude 41 North, I’ve come to associate the 11th month not with Native American heritage, ulcerative colitis, or homeless youth, as some would have me. For this guy, November means gray skies, wet leaves, and darkness.

Not this November! This November, I’m headed down to the British Virgin Islands, where I’ll join overall champions from the nine-event Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta series for the 2010 Sperry Top-Sider Caribbean NOOD Championship. I participated in the event once before, in 2006, so I know what to expect: a week of pure fun in Sunsail 39s, hopping from Tortola to Cooper Island to Virgin Gorda to Jost Van Dyke to Norman Island. Along the way, there’ll be point-to-point races, windward-leewards in Lasers at Bitter End YC, and plenty of time for carousing with my new best friends. For the teams who earned their invite by besting top-notch competition throughout the United States, the Caribbean NOOD Championship is a just reward, courtesy of our sponsors. For me, it’s just a reward.
